A classic was the starting point for this action – the 1954 documentary „The Mad Masters“ by Jean Rouch: a ritual of the Hauka mocks state organs and the power games of the colonialists. The JEANSGRUPPE used the installation Teutopia at the Atelier van Lieshout as a film location and transferred this ritual into today. In front of the camera and the audience the JEANSGRUPPE embodied their secret desire to be hidden from the general competition of beauty and self-representation. The higher school of embarrassment with a 360° view of Munich.
During their performances the JEANSGRUPPE consists of 10 people (5 men and 5 women). Degrading applications, jeansy accessories, humiliating namby-pamby chic, (jeans)fabric turning into aesthetic misery. Every member being rather unimpressive by themself, but alarmingly present in the cluster. Subtle actions and uptight rituals, soft chants and minimalist dances determine the magic of the JEANSGRUPPE. It consists of 10 individuals who act as one body. The JEANSGRUPPE has no glamor, no radiant front. No state can be made by the JEANSGRUPPE. JEANSGRUPPE is not Trash, not Camp within the meaning of Pop, for that the wink, the ironic nonchalance is missing.
