Gordoa & Schilling ::::::::: a hybrid experience of music and movement
Gordoa & Schilling are crossing the boundaries of shared creation over a 10 days period of collaborative experimentation and playful composition.
Emilio Gordoa is a percussionist and improviser. Elisabeth Schilling is a dancer. They both met on an improvisation session initiated by William ‚Bilwa‘ Costa in 2013 and then decided to explore their two artistic practices in collaboration.
Emilio has collaborated broadly with musicians such as German Bringas, Misha Marks, Tobias Delius, Lis Allbee, Raul Tudon, Dario Bernal Villegas, Itzam Cano, Remi Alvarez. He is currently involved in numerous projects which are related to experimental music, noise, free jazz, improvisation and contemporary music. Emilio is redefining the vibraphone as a source, treating it with preparations and extended techniques, and is a busy composer as well, writing graphic scores for a variety of ensembles, large and small.
Elisabeth, who has worked with independent choreographers and dance companies around the UK, Germany, Belgium and Luxemburg has continued to develop her own movement research throughout. This research revolves around the sensations of sound, rhythm, dynamics in contemporary music and how these translate in the body in spatial composition as well as movement textures in improvised performance. Her performative presence is informed by the idea of unpredictability and surprise in different states of listening.
In residency at Galerina Steiner, Tatwerk, grüntaler9 as well as Lakestudios, Emilio Gordoa and Elisabeth Schilling seek to create an artistic platform which develops over the time of a 10 days working period. Each performance is informed by the experiences of the last.
Staying true to the innate moment of presence in performance, the collaboration will live through the development of performances, resonating through experimentation, memories and discussions. The artistic couple will experiment and redefine the correlation between movement and sound through impulse and response, silence and stillness and composition and improvisation.
