The performance lasts for approximately 50 minutes.
Diagnostic Session is a series of live investigations exploring and critiquing the act of performing. Lindsay Tunkl invited a licensed Jungian Analyst.
Lindsay Tunkl is a video artist, performer and photographer. Her work focuses on concepts related to identity, memory, emotion and trauma.
As an artist who uses performance as a means of expression, you are compelled to ask yourself, “Why do I perform?” And when it comes to executing specific pieces of work; “why should this be a performance and not a piece of music, or a photograph?” The answers inevitably vary. Diagnostic Session is a series of live investigations exploring these questions, each time in a new environment, with a new analyst and a new audience. The point is to uncover through psychoanalytic methods why I perform. On a deeper level of the subconscious, I investigate why I often lean towards emotional exhibitionism in order to feel fulfilled in my art making practice. Diagnostic Session is a self critiquing performance that asks itself in the moment, “why is this taking place?” and asks the performer, “Why am I performing?” (Lindsay Tunkl)
